Alaska Aces, R.I.P.
Right now, it's likely the last game of the season for the Alaska Aces, and possibly the last game ever. It is the 2nd-period break, and there remains 20 minutes to a game going so bad it should be stopped based on human pity alone. After gaining an impressive 2-goal lead just minutes into the game, the Aces then decided to set records, all bad.
Imagine a game so bad that the goaltender gets pulled, and a few minutes later, his replacement is pulled so the first guy gets tossed back in. Yep, that bad. Bad bad. Imagine a series where the defense has scored almost every goal. Yes, that's right no offense. And tonight, no goaltending. Stockton 7, Alaska 3.
We're reliving the dreadful 2001 season again. Ugh.
Now about the whole "R.I.P." comment. The rumor abounding is that the Aces may getting sold, and looking at tonight's horrid performance, I think it'll be a discount sale. The guy who sits next to me in the arena mentioned his "the team is up for sale" theory months ago, and so far, it's been coming to pass just as he said. I will not be shocked if tomorrow's paper contains an announcement along the lines of "Aces management make annoucement."
There is more to life than hockey, for sure, but you know, we really wanted so much better for our Alaska Aces this year, we really did.
